BTS Gwanghwamun Comeback Concert — What Happened & What It Means for the ARIRANG World Tour
March 22, 2026 · KPopGo Travel Team
BTS returned to the stage on March 21, 2026 at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul — their first full-group performance in nearly four years. The free outdoor concert, titled "BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG," drew an estimated 100,000+ fans from around the world according to mobile network data, with Seoul police estimating 40,000–42,000 in the immediate viewing area. The event was broadcast live on Netflix and multiple Korean networks.
The Comeback
All seven members — RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook — performed together for the first time since their group hiatus began in June 2022. The setlist featured tracks from the new album ARIRANG alongside fan-favorite hits. Gwanghwamun Square was transformed into a full-scale concert venue with 31 security entry gates equipped with metal detectors and approximately 15,000 deployed security and emergency personnel.
International fans traveled from every continent to attend. Many already hold tickets for the upcoming world tour and flew to Seoul specifically for this one-off event. Fans from Australia, Indonesia, France, Mexico, and Chile were among those interviewed at the scene, with several planning to stay in Korea through mid-April for the Goyang opening shows.
What This Means for the ARIRANG World Tour
The Gwanghwamun concert confirms BTS is in full performance condition heading into the ARIRANG World Tour. The tour opens April 9–12 at Goyang Sports Complex in Gyeonggi Province, followed by Tokyo Dome (April 17–18), Tampa (April 25–28), and 30+ additional cities through March 2027 — totaling 84 shows across 35 cities on 6 continents.
If you are planning to attend any tour stop, book flights and hotels now. Demand for accommodation near concert venues surged immediately after the Gwanghwamun show. Cities like Las Vegas (4 nights at Allegiant Stadium), Inglewood/LA (4 nights at SoFi Stadium), and East Rutherford/NYC (MetLife Stadium) are expected to see the fastest hotel sellouts.
Travel Tips for Seoul & Goyang (April 2026)
If you are visiting Seoul for the April 9–12 Goyang shows, consider arriving a few days early to explore the Gwanghwamun area where BTS made history. Gyeongbokgung Palace is a 5-minute walk from the concert site. April in Seoul brings mild spring weather (15°C), cherry blossom season, and comfortable walking conditions.
Goyang Sports Complex is about 30 minutes from central Seoul by bus or taxi. The nearest subway is Line 3 (Jeongbalsan Station). Hotels in the Ilsan/Kintex area offer the closest access to the venue, while Hongdae in Seoul provides better nightlife and dining options after the show.
